Monday Mutterings: Jakob Two Trees, trolling in the PNWIf you have some time to kill in the Seattle area a great little excursion is to go on a troll hunt. A Dutch artist by the name of Thomas Dambo has worked with local tribes and artist to create these beautiful and rustic statues. There are 6 amazing sculptures sprinkled throughout the PNW, specifcally the Seattle and Portland area. Although, the artist has many scattered throughout the U.S.as well, so you may be able to find one closer to home. *Something to note, this pieces are only expected to hold up for 3 years before they start to naturally breakdown so please DO NOT climb on or touch the pieces as this will accelerate this process. The artist has left it up to the land owners as to whether they will keep the sculpture maintained once this process begins. I was able on a time crunch and could only make it to one of these wonders. I was able to sneak to Jakob Two Trees. He resides in Issaquah. There isn't a sign or great fanfare leading the way to this earthy mystical creature but if you go to the Issaquah Community Center and take the Rainier Trail you will find him waiting to greet you about a quarter mile down the trail.
Although Jakob stands a whooping 14 feet tall, he is a gentle giant. You feel almost a peaceful calm while visiting him. His necklace is made of life sized birdhouses and he is completely made of reclaimed wood. The area he resides in is calm as well and helps give him an even more mystical feeling.
No matter what angle you look at him from he is a marvel. So if you want a fun outdoor excursion, go for a troll hunt!! Comments
