Monday Mutters: Eagle River Campground reviewSo we needed to take our camper out for a test run after a long winter. Actually, we look for any excuse to get out in our camper so we decided to claim to need to take it out for a night and test all the systems. We didn't want to go to far so we checked out the Eagle River Campground, this campground is just a little outside of Eagle River and about 15 miles north of Anchorage. It is nestled on a hillside just above Eagle River and is beautifully upkept by the state of Alaska. The sites are nicely spaced and paved. And it is busy! Half the sites are reservable so if you don't make a reservation make sure you get there early to try and get a spot. The night we were there we showed up around lunch time and the place looked semi full but by dinner time the place was completely full, as were the overflow campground spots. But even when the place was completely full it didn't feel crazy. It was full of happy campers taking walks with their dogs children riding their bikes around the campground loops and the wonderful smells of campfire cooking. If you need a spot close to town I would highly recommend this campground. One of my favorite things about camping is the opportunity to have visitors, of the wildlife kind, and since this place is pretty busy you wouldn't expect to find much. But we did have a pretty regular visitor in the form of a red squirrel who came back multiple to check on us. I am just excited to say that the camping season has started for us!! Happy camping!
